Knowing where you start in life does not determine the finish line. Raised in what he refers to as a broken two-parent home by a very hard-working mother and an alcoholic father who worked in the Jamaican police force, Dr. Ryan Wiggan's is not your typical everyday childhood story. The context itself alone sets the scene for plenty of unexpected twists. All that combined with growing up in the "Garrison" —a term used to refer to gang-ridden and volatile neighbourhoods— in Kingston, Jamaica, inevitably led to a very unstable and abusive childhood for Dr. Ryan. Thankfully, those experiences, along with witnessing a dramatically contrasting world as he visited his peers' families growing up ignited a burning desire within Dr. Ryan to break this detrimental cycle that had been handed down and unquestioned for far too long. Hailing from very humble beginnings in Kingston, Jamaica, Dr Ryan Wiggan considers himself an extraordinary product of his unique and volatile circumstances that were faced during his childhood through to adolescence. He is an advocate for Education and Youth Empowerment and holds a special place in his heart for those who seek the gift of learning.
As a proud Alumnus of the Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica, and the La Sierra University in Riverside, California; he has attributed to these institutions his greatest treasures (outside of his family and faith); his increase in knowledge and wisdom, with the full understanding that learning never ends.
The most important person he has ever known on this earth was his mother, who was the foundation of his moral system and his inspiration. His mother never possessed a high school diploma, but she held the most powerful job in the world; his βsunshineβ- as she was affectionately called. He believes that if it was not for his motherβs heart and sacrifice, he would not have gotten the opportunities afforded to him today; such as the honor of being your guest speaker. He considers himself the seed that βsunshineβ planted, and wants the world to reap the fruits of her legacy that has formed the core of his existence and who he professes to be.
